Spring into your Denver landscaping to do list!
Temperatures are warming and it’s time to get ready for spring! In just a few weeks the snow will thaw from the ground and you will need to be ready to hit the ground running. We recommend planning ahead, not only for budgetary reasons but because a good Denver lawn takes time and work. Leading up to spring there are a few things you can do to help prepare, take a look at our five favorite tips.
Step 1: Clean, Clean and Clean
After a long winter, your lawn can accumulate some trash. Since this step involves being outdoors, you might want to wait until it is a little warmer before starting. You’ll need to spend time picking up twigs, trash, large rocks, etc., pretty much whatever accumulates during the winter months. Keep your yard free of debris is the best way to ensure healthy growth, and a beautiful looking yard. Cleaning also includes taking time to clean off sidewalks, driveways, porches, and anything that has accumulated on top of your roof. A great landscape needs room to shine.
Step 2: Grass Seed
Hm...there is some debate over this one! Many experts say you should seed in the spring, but others say you should wait until fall. Our recommendation? Do both. Winter can leave some bare spots in your yard, and nobody likes a bare spot! A light seeding done in March or April should help to fill those bare spots in before summer is here. After you are done seeding, be sure to place some cover down (we recommend some dirt) but hay will work as well. Make sure when planting in the spring you do so early, so that you can enjoy mild temperatures.

The dreaded mowing chore! Mowing early and often is important to help grow your grass...as long as you leave the clippings on the yard. Lawn clippings are rich in nutrients, and can help your yard hold moisture better than a bare yard.
Step 4: Grab Some Mulch
Mulch is not only a beautiful addition to your landscaping, but it’s heavy weight and makeup will ensure it maintains as much moisture as possible. Now this is something you should definitely do closer to the warmer months, but we recommend starting to budget for this now. Mulch can get pricey - but it’s worth the cost.
